“Either-or” type thinking provides only two options. To avoid limiting yourself, consider different perspectives.

How can you think in new ways? Practice creative exercises. Try playing “What if?” What if I could meet any person, living or dead, who would it be? What if I could have any job in the world, what would I do?

Now apply your creativity to your problems. If you want to exercise, but don’t have time, ask yourself, “If I did have time for exercise when would I do it?” You’ll begin to see multiple options rather than the two results from either-or thoughts. One woman played “what if” and moved to the city of her choice and obtained her ideal job by simply asking herself, “What if I chose to have the life of my dreams, how would I do it?”

Consider problem solving as a challenge instead of a chore. You may surprise yourself by discovering that by using your imagination, ingenuity, and intuition, not only do you identify new options, but you have fun finding them.
